    Vote for our future

    By Kate | March 19, 2008

I was accepted to Southwestern Law School in L.A. They gave me a scholarship for $8,000. So, now, since I have only heard back from 3 schools, the choice is between L.A. and San Diego. Vote in the comments which you would prefer. I am calculating all kinds of things like cost of living, law clinics etc., but I am assuming your choice will be based on where you’d rather come visit us at. (This voting is open to total internet strangers as well).

    Sunny, funny LASssssan Diego!

We fully intend on selling shares of our future house to earn money for a downpayment. So, would you rather have a permanent place to couch-surf in close proximity to Hollywood/Disneyland or Sea World/ SD Zoo?

Yuck. LA is awful. San Diego is awesome though.

San Diego San Diego San Diego San Diego!
Although, if you lived in LA, you could try and sneak on the disney lot and steal reels of LOST while it’s in post-production. And then share them with your beloved friends.
      Hmmmmm.
LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!

It’s important to state one’s credentials before casting a vote of this importance and magnitude. So, for the record, I consider myself to be a bona fide LA insider for the following reasons:

      - I have lived in the LA area for all of my life 10 months
      - I have stood in line for EVER (!) at the Burbank DMV
      - My sunglasses and flip-flops, though made in China, were purchased at an LAX kiosk
      - I know all about the “secret” parts of Disneyland
      - I slept through my first LA earthquake
      - I have a friend in the movie business

But, all of these important qualifications aside, I know absolutely NOTHING about this place. All I know is that our time here so far hasn’t shown us even the tip of the tip of the LA iceberg. And to be honest, that’s kind of what I like about it.

Southwestern is in a part of town that would put you in easy reach of places like Santa Monica, Culver City, Pacific Palisades, Marina Del Rey, etc. All of these places are awesome, and each is very diverse and distinct from the other. On the other hand, it also puts you in easy reach of West Hollywood, La Brea, Echo Park, etc, which are definitely NOT very awesome. So there really is a lot to choose from – good, bad, awesome, awful, everything in between, etc. and so forth.

So, having said all that, my $.02: If you are looking for a safe and small town feel, one that’s easy to digest in a short amount of time, go to San Diego. If you are looking for more of a massive experience, one that results from living amongst collection of very diverse, small and large towns all wrapped into one mega-metro, LA is the place for you.

Officially and formally, my vote is for LA. But that’s just because I’m an “LA insider”.

Hmm..Thats a hard one. I have to say, I do prefer San Diego for all my visiting needs..but then there is the scholarship. Good thing the two cities are relatively close together..

San Diego. Just seems less ratty to me. Put that on the list. “Less Ratty.”
