Oh brother. Though I do not like Mitt Romney in the least, I hate it when we focus on red herrings like this rather than the actual issues. What are they implying? That Romney is racist? He said something stupid, nothing more.

It’s mostly just a little humorbite. However, “accidentally” using racial slurs/ even having racial slurs as part of your vernacular is not somthing I can tolerate from a presidential candidate.

That’s the point. He wasn’t using a racial slur. If I say that there’s a chink in the fence, I am not using a racial slur. Saying that the floor is spic-and-span is not a racial slur. When I say that a situation is a bummer, I am not referring to homosexuals.

According to the dictionary, tar baby means “A situation or problem from which it is virtually impossible to disentangle oneself.”

If this had been a candidate you liked you would have defended him. I hate that we discuss these issues. I think we should take the higher ground and attack candidates based upon their qualifications and policies, not because of some imagined offense.

It is important not to get bogged down in the minutia. We certainly do get an overload of nit-picking of personality traits etc. While certain overarching characteristics are important (ie if the candidate is a bigot, an idiot, soulless etc.), I agree that policy issues can be overshadowed by the candidates’ hair styles too often.

I like Romney’s hair. It’s the whole “soulless” thing that bothers me.

The journalist says duh, but I think it is interesting that it is those who claim offense that don’t understand what this term is.
