			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: center;">Spent today as a Legal Observer for the <a href="http://www.nlg.org/" target="_blank">National Lawyers Guild</a> at the <a href="http://reformimmigrationforamerica.org/blog/march-index/" target="_blank">March for America</a> with my friend Jill from CCR.<br />

<p style="text-align: center;">I was recently elected co-chair (there are 4 co-chairs &amp; there were only 4 of us running <img src='http://www.kateandneil.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' />  ) of AU&#8217;s National Lawyers Guild chapter. They do a lot of amazing work, but one of the things they are famous for is wearing these [lovely] green caps &amp; doing legal observation at protests to make sure the cops are not doing anything shady/illegal. We take notes, video &amp; pictures of interactions between protesters &amp; the police.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;">There were SO many people who came out to support comprehensive immigration reform&#8230; including these darling nuns. &#8220;I was a stranger and you welcomed me.&#8221; Touché sister, touché. Some preliminary online reports I saw said there were 500,000 people there today &amp; I believe it. It was packed.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;">Luckily everyone was very peaceful &amp; we even saw people posing with the mounted cops to take pictures. (I think that the Park Police are <em>very</em> used to tourists/interacting with the public.)</p>

There were so many families and small children. It was a great sight. I think this man&#8217;s sign says it all, &#8220;<strong>Mr. President Give us a Chance To Work With NO Fear</strong>.&#8221;</p>

We saw the sights.

We ate great food.

But, the highlight was most certainly our JUNE TIME!!!!!


She is such an expressive and wonderful little imp. And, boy was she happy when Uncle Neil was holding her.

<p>Well, children, where there is so much racket there must be something out of kilter. I think that &#8216;twixt the negroes of the South and the women at the North, all talking about rights, the white men will be in a fix pretty soon. But what&#8217;s all this here talking about?</p>
<p>That man over there says that women need to be helped into carriages, and lifted over ditches, and to have the best place everywhere. Nobody ever helps me into carriages, or over mud-puddles, or gives me any best place! And ain&#8217;t I a woman? Look at me! Look at my arm! I have ploughed and planted, and gathered into barns, and no man could head me! And ain&#8217;t I a woman? I could work as much and eat as much as a man &#8211; when I could get it &#8211; and bear the lash as well! And ain&#8217;t I a woman? I have borne thirteen children, and seen most all sold off to slavery, and when I cried out with my mother&#8217;s grief, none but Jesus heard me! And ain&#8217;t I a woman?</p>
<p>Then they talk about this thing in the head; what&#8217;s this they call it? [member of audience whispers, "intellect"] That&#8217;s it, honey. What&#8217;s that got to do with women&#8217;s rights or negroes&#8217; rights? If my cup won&#8217;t hold but a pint, and yours holds a quart, wouldn&#8217;t you be mean not to let me have my little half measure full?</p>
<p>Then that little man in black there, he says women can&#8217;t have as much rights as men, &#8217;cause Christ wasn&#8217;t a woman! Where did your Christ come from? Where did your Christ come from? From God and a woman! Man had nothing to do with Him.</p>
<p>If the first woman God ever made was strong enough to turn the world upside down all alone, these women together ought to be able to turn it back , and get it right side up again! And now they is asking to do it, the men better let them.</p>

<p>Kate was sick and did not want to Thursday adventure with me. That said I really didn&#8217;t want to adventure myself. I was feeling extra lazy and Kate had to kick me off the computer and throw me out the house. It was sunny but not particularly warm so I decided to head for the great outdoors. I landed a short 15 miles outside D.C. at the Great Fall National Park, a small park overlapping the Chesapeake &amp; Ohio Canal National Historic Park.</p>

<p>My first thought after getting out of the car, was, &#8220;really, 15 minutes from D.C.?&#8221; After 6 months of living in the city and working in a strip mall I had all but forgotten nature. I was flabbergasted to find such natural beauty only 15 minutes from my house! As soon as I arrived I was greeted by two friendly Canadian Geese who walked right up to me as I took their pictures. My other amazing animal encounter was seeing my first real in the wild woodpecker (a Red-crowned woodpecker to be exact). I didn&#8217;t have much time to get a nice shot, but at least I&#8217;ve got some proof! Also, I snapped a few shots of a bird of prey (still trying to identify it). The falls were actually quite impressive. There was a long boardwalk that took you to an overlook of the falls.</p>

<p>When I got home Kate was feeling a little better. To end the day we made Alice Water&#8217;s simple six ingredient free-form apple tart (apples, butter, sugar, flour, water and salt). It was tasty and we ate almost the entire tart before going to bed (Kate finished it for breakfast this morning).</p>

<p>With Kate in school and me working afternoon shifts it&#8217;s hard to find time to do something together. Serendipitously, Thursdays are more or less free for both of us and so we&#8217;ve decided to take a little adventure every Thursday. Today we went to the National Geographic headquarters in downtown D.C. to see a show on the Terra Cotta Warriors Horses. On display were around 15 soldiers, one horse and a boat-load of artifacts unearthed with the soldiers. These are but a few of the over 8,000 soldiers buried in the tomb complex of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor to unite (through bloody war) and rule all of China.</p>
<p>The show was amazing. The soldiers were so intricate and each one unique. If you are in <a href="http://www.nationalgeographic.com/terracottawarriors/" target="_blank">D.C. before the show ends in April you should go</a>!</p>
