Gold’s Gym the den of debauchery

This is a true story. College students in Utah County are threatening to picket Gold’s Gym because of the extent of indecency they encounter while patronizing the establishment. These scantily clad, excersize crazed weirdos (that is my anecdotal summation of the clientèle) are tromping around making demands left and right. One of their demands is AND I QUOTE:

Install blinds on the aerobics room to block the dancing, which is very provocative.

I am amused that none of these work-outers thought of say…. canceling their membership at the gym in protest.

  1. Hey, it seems weird that they planned to picket if their demands weren’t met.

  2. are they kidding? this is the only possible thing I would even consider going to a gym for.

  3. From everything you know about me, it might seem that I would join the protesters. However, I think that when commerce is involved often the best way to protest is to remove support.
Also, the demands they are making seem akin to me to frequenting a bar and demanding that they STOP serving alcohol and start promoting family values.
Not an exact analogy, obviously… but that’s the level I see this on.

  4. This story made it to Fark.com, which is where I read about it. I’m surprised they don’t have on-campus gyms, sanitized of anything that might offend students’ delicate sensibilities. I suppose if they want to exercise in a completely de-sexualized environment, that’s their business (though such a desire is alien to me), but to impose your morality on the rest of the gym-going world is ridiculous. Be entrepreneurial, kids: Start your own gender-segregated, music-video-free gym. If your petition to stop the videos has collected “nearly a thousand signatures,” then there’s obviously a market for it.

  5. That’s the thing…. they DO have FREE on-campus gyms. I went (very seldom) as an undergrad. No pictures on the walls. Just modestly clad work-outers trying to get buff in a non-flirtatious, exercise-minded environment. Ah-ha!

  6. I read that Gov. Shwartzenegger, Shaq, Sally Field and Sir Anthony Hopkins are members of Gold’s Gym.

(can’t remember if I saw it painted on the gym wall or maybe on JSTOR.)
