Who would’ve ever thought you would find a little Croatian restaurant in Alexandria, VA? I certainly didn’t. And so I was pleasantly surprised my web research led us to the Cosmopolitan Grill. And so classy too…wall art!
Our friend and PIG Project veteran, Edmundo, joined us for the auspicious event. We met him at the closest Metro stop, Old King George (or something like that), and then proceeded to drive due south into the depth of Confederate territory – or at least that is how it felt: it was a long drive. The restaurant was packed and we had to wait outside to be seated. (I would have included a photo of me sitting outside but you aren’t missing anything)
Kate decided to go for the camembert salad however, a more accurate description would have been half-cheese-wheel entree with a side salad. It was good and Kate would have finished it if her heart had not given out a few bites before the end.
So this is the sad part of the evening. Edmundo ordered chicken schnitzel, which would have been amazing I am sure, but for some strange reason I intervened and he somehow ended up with mac-and-cheese. The problems was during that during one of our previous PIG Project events, Austrian I think, Edmundo had ordered spatzle and didn’t really like it. I got the names confused and so falsely warned him that he wouldn’t like schnitzel since I thought it was spatzle. So he changed his order and somehow ended up with twiggy pasta. Anyway, he didn’t seem to mind but I still feel bad to this day. Edmundo, I am so so so so so so so sorry :.(
I, on the other hand, just stuck with good old fashion chicken skewers. They were good but not nearly as good as my desert.
What can I say, it’s Vince’s favorite and mine too! Vince and I are always on the same page.
Ok, the best part of the evening was bizarre dichotomy between the outside for the restaurant (filling the Jamba Juice spot next to a Gold’s Gym) and the classy inside. When we first pulled up to the restaurant we were like “oh dear, what have we gotten ourselves into!” But as they say, don’t judge a book by its cover…otherwise you will end up reading a lot of crappy books. Or in our case, not eating at a great restaurant!
