Viva Castro: We will miss you.

    By Neil Ransom | February 19, 2008

    Fidel in a warm-up suit

So I just heard that Fidel Castro has stepped down from the Cuban presidency and parliament is in the processes of electing a new president. That came out of left field, I was 100% sure he would stay in power until the day he died. I think he is doing the right thing and I hope the new president will institute some reforms. On the other hand, I think America is going to miss having Castro in power. Now, who is going to be our commie scape goat? How are we going to teach our children the evils of communism if we don’t have Castro as an example? And, I expect his silhouette will soon be hijacked by pop-culture and turned into shirts, belt buckles, and stenciled graffiti and the youth will just accept him as another god of cool. The world will never be the same. Until we meet face to silhouette, Castro, peace be with you!

“Now, who is going to be our commie scape goat?”

      Hugo Chavez*, enter stage right.

*(Commence semantic nitpicking about socialism vs. communism.)

Sweet red, white and blue Adidas shirt. At least he’s going out in style!

But since Nike has a bigger market share than Adidas, maybe the silhouette we create will have a big SWOOSH on it.

Yeah I’ve been noticing the Adidas product placement also. Maybe he got sponsored when he got sick. Here are some good sporty pics:

I agree with the Hugo Chavez comment.

I just hope Cuba changes its national dress to track suits.

Those guerilla-green duds he wore were sooooooooo 20th century!!

Way to go Fidel - J Lo in her crushed velvet track suit would be proud!

Jim Kelly - how’s about a post about your trip to Cuba in the mid-1990s???

Here’s a pretty funny article about the CIA’s attempts to discredit and assassinate Castro. One big goal, it seemed, was to make his beard fall out. Who knows what would have happened if they had succeeded?

Uh, any commie I guess. But I am actually an equal opportunity hater of commies.

I remember that every restaraunt Jim went to they gave him a full menu but told him that he could order the ham sandwich. Commies for ya.

I just watched a fascinating documentary about Stalin on THC. For the common man my *&%. The common man got ground up in the gears of communism and always does. My two cents.

Ask one of the millions of people stuffed in cargo holds or on rafts trying to get out of it.

As for the semantics, I have noticed that people even try to evade socialistic restrictions on themselves even when they want them for others. Hence the accounting industry.

Sorry so fragmented, but I actually asked one of my declared communist professors at linguistics why she doesn’t like paying taxes. She made about half a million a year and was whining about how much she had to pay. Such hypocricy.

Sorry I got a bit carried away there, folks. But I have had relatives die (and would myself)and my own father disabled trying to protect a small island of freedom and democracy in a big world of tyranny of all varieties including this one. I don’t usually like to see it backslide.
